Made In A Free World’s story began when our founder, Justin Dillon, was touring Eastern Europe with his band. There, he was confronted with the brutal reality of forced sex work. He learned that nearly 30 million people globally are living as modern-day slaves—deceived into situations they cannot leave and forced to work for someone else’s profit. He took action and brought together musical heavyweights (e.g. Moby, Tom Petty, Cold War Kids) and social luminaries (e.g. Cornel West, Nicholas Kristof, Madeleine Albright) for a feature-length “rockumentary” anti-slavery film in 2008 called CALL+RESPONSE.
After the success of CALL+RESPONSE, we partnered with the US State Department to create a platform that answers the shocking question, “How many slaves work for you?” Since it’s release in 2011, nearly 15 million people have taken action to learn about their “Slavery Footprint” and 725,000 letters have been sent to companies asking them to take concrete steps to remove slavery from their supply chains. The question that remained: “What companies are the most active in removing slavery from their supply chains?”
We are currently developing the solution to that challenging question: FRDM™ (Forced Labor Risk Determination & Mitigation): revolutionary software to expose and eliminate slavery in global supply chains. The first-of-its-kind platform will leverage the $88 trillion spent annually in the global marketplace to fight the $150 billion slavery black market. The only way to end modern slavery is if consumers help companies become the true heroes for freedom!
