Today, there are 60 million more Indians living in poverty than 20 years ago—many of these being children and youth. Over the coming decades, without support, this generation will not only miss out on opportunities for meaningful employment, but they will miss their chance to fulfill their own ambitions and dreams.

At Magic Bus, our objective is to break the poverty cycle one child at a time. Magic Bus equips some of India’s poorest children and youth with the skills and knowledge to grow up and be successful, to move out of poverty, and to take control of their future. Magic Bus works with 250,000 children and youth weekly across 22 states.

What We Do

Magic Bus trains and guides local, community-based mentors to deliver a long-term program that focuses on life skills in the areas of education, health, gender equality, leadership, and livelihood.

  • Education: Participation in Magic Bus sessions makes a child attendance more regular in school, reducing his or her chances of dropping out, and increasing the chance of the child moving into higher grades
  • Health: Magic Bus children are more aware of healthy behaviors and practices in the areas of personal hygiene, fitness, sanitation, nutrition, disease prevention, and sexual & reproductive health
  • Gender equality: Magic Bus children are more aware of issues relating to gender equality and rights, and are therefore better equipped to behave fairly with people of any gender
  • Leadership: Magic Bus youth show greater commitment towards resolving local issues by leading communication action
  • Livelihood: 85% of Magic Bus youth enroll in our employability program and 90% of these youth further their education

The program we deliver has strong grounding in academic research and is based on classical learning theories. Sporting activities and games are structured into each session to make them fun and appealing to our children. Sessions are designed to represent real-life situations and challenges so children are able to relate these back to their daily lives.
