This has been an enormously difficult year for Long Island’s immigrant communities and communities of color. Our members have been repeatedly targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids as Donald Trump has unleashed his deportation dragnet. And Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have used local tragedy--the deaths of young people--for political gain to justify further attacks on immigrant youth. They even visited Brentwood to spew hateful and false rhetoric about immigrants, while pressuring local law enforcement to deepen collaboration with ICE, which makes us all less safe. 

But our communities refuse to give up on Long Island. This is our home and, because we are #HereToStay, we will continue to fight to live and thrive here safely and with dignity. For the last seven years Make the Road New York’s Long Island members have been leaders in that fight. We need your support today, your investment in the resilience and power of working-class immigrant communities on Long Island. 

Make the Road New York builds the power of Latino and working class communities of color to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education and survival services. We have been serving communities through our storefront community centers located in some of the biggest immigrant neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and in Brentwood, Long Island where our doors have been opened for the past seven years. 

Our members hail from across both of the region’s counties, with a strong base in Brentwood, Central Islip, Westbury, New Cassel and growing membership in other immigrant neighborhoods throughout Long Island. We support members with high-quality bilingual services, including legal immigration services and referrals, health insurance enrollment and ESOL classes, so members can continue to organize as they are supported with their individual needs.
