One word opens new doors, prepares a child for success, and changes our world: reading. At Make Way for Books (MWFB), we believe that a love of reading and books begins early, before a child even enters the classroom. MWFB seeks to strengthen a culture of literacy in our community to prepare children with a love of reading that will ready them for success throughout life. MWFB envisions a community in which all children and families have the opportunity to share meaningful literacy experiences and wonderful books.
Over the past 18 years, MWFB has served more than 150,000 children and parents, placed 226,405 books into homes, and provided opportunities for children and parents to fall in love with books and reading.
MWFB makes sharing books fun, engaging, and accessible to young children and families by providing a comprehensive continuum of programming inside and outside of the classroom.
According to one center director, “This program puts literature in the homes better than any other program I have been involved with. Children share the enthusiasm and parents catch on quickly.”
