Set on the southeastern edge of the biggest coastal lagoon, Laguna de Caratasco, some 110 km east of Bruis Laguna, Puerto Lempira is the largest town in Mosquita and the home of 25 of the most beautiful orphan children. The children live with Mama Tara, a miskto woman of about 80 years old. In 2002, the non-profit organization called Mama Tara Miskito Orphanage was created and this organization has been provided the children with home at the orphanage so that they may grow up safe, strong, and knowing the Lord.

Vision

We see a time in the future where every Miskito Indian child of the Mosquito Coast of Honduras is provided the basic physical necessities of shelter, food, health, education and love and the spiritual necessities of grace, forgiveness and a close personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement

MamaTara Miskito Orphanage, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) interdenominational, Christian agency providing for the physical and spiritual needs of Miskito Indian children of the Mosquito Coast of Honduras through activities that focus on:

  • Building and opening a new MamaTara Orphanage Complex and helping them to become self-sufficient in the upcoming years.
  • Continue to establish friendships with the orphans, their families and other Miskito Indians to share the Gospel message and help them grow spiritually.
  • Offering vocational education programs to the orphans to help them prepare for a self-sufficient future.
  • Coordinating medical missions in the area.
  • Planning and implementing growth for the MamaTara Orphanage Complex over the next 5-10 years, including a school, chapel, clinic, farm, etc…
