Manomet is a nonprofit organization that builds science-based, cooperative solutions to environmental problems. Our mission is applying science and engaging people to sustain our world. Manomet’s scientists and staff work from our headquarters in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and offices located in Maine, Alaska, Delaware, Vermont, Washington, Chile, and Paraguay.
Manomet was founded in 1969 as Manomet Bird Observatory, with a focus on unraveling the mystery of continent-scale declines in migrant birds; our reputation in bird conservation was, and remains, renowned. Over the decades we have learned that nature is connected to nearly every thread in our environmental, economic, and social fabric. We knew that we had to think bigger—and differently—about what we can do on our own and we started to think about what we could accomplish working across sectors with people with diverse worldviews to sustain our world. Over the last 25 years, we have expanded our work into forestry and agriculture and, in the last ten, to sustainable economies.
