Marfa Studio of Arts

The Marfa Studio of Arts was started in 2000 to serve the community of Marfa by providing free and accessible arts education and opportunities. Since that time the town of Marfa has become a vibrant international arts destination with the prestigious arts institutions of the Chinati Foundation, the Judd Foundation and Ballroom Marfa. The children of Marfa did not have any art classes in their school on a regular basis and it seemed if Marfa was to be considered an important arts community that was a need to be filled. 

The Marfa Studio of Arts has provided, free of charge, a high quality professional art curriculum to the Marfa Elementary School since 2005. We created the Studio in the Elementary School Arts program (SITES) to enhance the Marfa childrens education. Our program runs full time during the entirety of the school year and is coordinated with the administration of the school.  This program creates an academic art component to the school’s curriculum that is taught by artist/teachers with university credentials. The Marfa school system serves many children who are considered at risk and in the poverty level. Our program is offering absolutely free to the school by providing teachers and supplies.
