MCSI is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to promoting important issues in marine biology and fisheries, and is currently involved in research projects around the globe dedicated to protecting and conserving marine resources. One of our biggest programs focuses on sharks, and primarily great white sharks. We have been using satellite tagging and photo identification to study and monitor the population of white sharks at Guadalupe Island, Mexico since 1999. We have been working to increase knowledge of the behavior, migration patterns and habitat preferences of this threatened species.  Our photo identification project coupled with the satellite tagging, have made us the forerunners of Guadalupe Island white shark research, and we have made major advancements in what is known about the life history and migration patterns of these amazing sharks.  All these data we have collected on white sharks are crucial for establishing better management policies for the conservation and protection of Northeastern Pacific white sharks.
