Bringing Louisiana's Maritime History to Life," is the driving mission of the Maritime Museum Louisiana. Located on the banks of the scenic Tchefuncte River in Madisonville, the Maritime Museum takes you on a historic journey through maritime Louisiana. The museum brings Louisiana's maritime history to life through unique interpretive programs, exhibits, and publications.

Exhibits: Civil War Secret Weapon-enter a reproduction of the experimental submarine, Pioneer, built to protect southern ports.
Treasures of the Tchefuncte: Step back in time with the award winning video history of the Tchefuncte River.
Wood and Water: Model ships, historic boats, and videos present our state networked by waterways.

Tchefuncte River Lighthouse-The original tower established in 1837, at the confluence of the Lake Pontchartrain and the Tchefuncte River, is one of the last historic lighthouses in the country. The 1868 Lightkeeper's Cottage resides on the grounds of the museum. The lighthouse is only accessible by water.

Wooden Boat Festival: Each October, the Maritime Museum celebrates the art of wooden and classic boats in the quaint riverside town of Madisonville. Over 30,000 people attend this two-day event that features live music, delicious cuisine, crafts, arts and fun activities for children and visitors of all ages.
