Marvin Thomas Memorial (MTM) is a Black-led non-profit that supports low-income, at-risk youth and BIPOC families with essential services and programming in financial literacy, athletics, and health and wellness. Our mission is to empower these communities through mentorship, fitness, outreach, and culturally informed education.
History
The Marvin Thomas Memorial (MTM) was established in 2000 to honor Marvin Thomas, a beloved figure in Seattle's athletic community who lost his battle with cancer. For the past 25 years, MTM has been a pillar in the Seattle community, inspired by Marvin’s generosity, hard work, and joyful spirit. The organization has significantly impacted lives through programs in youth mentorship, athletics, financial literacy, and basic needs, continuing Marvin’s legacy of goodwill and community service.
Impact
- In 2023, Marvin Thomas Memorial significantly enhanced food security for over 200 low-income families by distributing nutritious groceries.
- Supplied 1,000 Hygiene and warming kits for Seattle's homeless in 2023.
- 75% of youth participating in our athletic programming go on to higher education.
- 90% of participants in the G.R.O.W. program return as peer mentors to guide and support younger girls.
Fundraising Goal
Our goal is to raise funds for a dedicated van to provide reliable transportation for the girls in our G.R.O.W. (Girls Removing Obstacles Worldwide) program and enable enriching field trips that complement their learning and growth. This vehicle bridges the gap between potential and opportunity, helping us drive their journey toward personal and academic success.
