The need for Maryhurst’s services today is greater than ever. With Kentucky leading the nation in child fatalities due to abuse and neglect, more children are desperate for the hope and healing only Maryhurst can provide.

For nearly 170 years, Maryhurst has cared for abused and neglected children, making it the state’s oldest child welfare agency. Believing the worth of children and strength of families are cornerstones for a better world, Maryhurst is dedicated to providing care and commitment, strength and support, healing and hope to children and families in great need. The private, non-profit agency cares for 300 children each year through a residential treatment program for teenage girls, community based group homes for teen girls, therapeutic foster care services, psychiatric residential treatment facilities, and transitional living services. Maryhurst is recognized nationally for its expertise in caring for severely traumatized youth, most often victims of sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse or neglect.

STAND UP for Girls: A Campaign for Maryhurst

Maryhurst has embarked on a fundraising campaign to re-envision our 36-year-old campus.  Maryhurst moved to our Dorsey Lane location in 1976, and many of our buildings date to that period.  Our campus, while beautiful, no longer adequately meets the needs of our current children which are dramatically more severe than when we first moved to this property.  The treatment environment for children who have been severely traumatized by abuse and neglect is critically important, requiring space that is “home-like” while also attending to safety and supervision issues.

Our Dorsey Lane campus has five residential units, three of which are two-story and have shared bedrooms and bathrooms.  Today’s youth have supervision and safety needs that require one story floor plans with individual bedrooms and single bathrooms.  Our Building Team has worked with designers to develop a floor plan that is “home-like” using durable materials, natural light and smaller groupings to promote psychological healing while incorporating features into the new cottages that will provide the best treatment environment possible.

We need your help!

We recently received a challenge grant from an anonymous donor that will boost our efforts to break ground on our new cottages this summer. The donor will give Maryhurst $1 for every $1 raised for capital – up to a total gift of $250,000.  We are seeking support for this challenge so all gifts made through this site will be designated for the construction of these two new cottages and matched dollar-for-dollar – so your $10 gift becomes $20 just like that.  Generous donors, like you, have given $35,000 towards this match, leaving $215,000 available to match your gift and others.

We encourage you to check out the building plans we’ve posted on this site and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Campaign Manager, Lindsey Ransdell, at or 502-271-4546.

Thank you in advance for your support of our Journey of Hope.
