Picture a democracy where everyone values cultural knowledge, civil discourse, and diverse perspectives. The humanities provide us with the tools to get there.

Your gift supports grant-making and programs focused on bringing the humanities to underserved audiences.

GRANT-MAKING: Mass Humanities has reached virtually every Massachusetts municipality by making thousands of grants over 40+ years, totaling over $13 million given to small- and mid-sized nonprofit organizations.

CLEMENTE COURSE IN THE HUMANITIES: Now in its 19th year, Clemente serves as a pathway to further education and civic engagement for low income adults in Dorchester, Brockton, New Bedford, Worcester, and Springfield. Over 800 adults have completed this life-changing program, leaving the program with new skills, confidence, and a bookshelf of classic and contemporary works of literature, philosophy, art history, and American history.

MASS MOMENTS:  Meet revolutionaries and writers, inventors and athletes, heroes and crooks every day of the year in this digital almanac of Massachusetts history.

READING FREDERICK DOUGLASS:  Public readings across Massachusetts of Douglass's famous speech, "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" Participants take turns reading the speech until they've read all of it.
