Housing, and where it is located, affects almost every aspect of a person’s life.  It is a fundamental human need and should be available to everyone on an equal basis.  Unfortunately, most people do not have equal housing choice, because we have not been able to overcome a long historical legacy of housing discrimination and segregation.

The Massachusetts Fair Housing Center is dedicated to ending systemic discrimination and creating inclusive communities through education, outreach, advocacy, housing counseling, and enforcement. For nearly three decades we have represented individuals and families facing eviction and homelessness because of systemic housing discrimination.

Recently we helped a Springfield woman with four children avoid eviction. After her landlord found out that the woman’s adult daughter had a baby, he began the eviction process to avoid having to obey the lead laws that protect children under 6.  The family had no place to go and was facing homelessness.  After MFHC filed a civil rights complaint in court, the landlord quickly agreed to stop the eviction and make the apartment lead-safe for the infant. With MFHC's help, the family is now living in stable, healthy housing.

Your donation in any amount is appreciated so that we can continue to fight for everyone harmed by housing discrimination and segregation. Thank you for your generosity!
