When even one ESL child is needlessly undereducated due to a linguistic barrier, that lost opportunity is a tragedy for that student and her parents. Math4ALL (in development) is a powerful math practice software program designed to be accessible in 95 languages. It aims to help eliminate the language barrier to advancement in math for these students. The languages in this highly inclusive, research-based program represent those spoken by over 99% of English language learners in America’s schools. Math4ALL will allow this critically underserved and least-educated population to improve their math skills from their first day of school right alongside their English-speaking peers.

Math4ALL will eventually be accessible to blind and vision impaired students, also in 95 languages.

A growing amount of research is calling for educational content in the native languages of English language learner students. Research also informs us that educators need assessments that are given in these students' native language. Educators need visibiilty on what their students know and don't know. Math4ALL will provide all of this.

Math4ALL is a math practice website, computer program, and app with content at the heart of STEM (the national focus on improving education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Math4ALL's unique format will demonstrate to English language learners (and all students), minute-by-minute, that they have the capacity to improve in math and enjoy the process.

Math4ALL will be accessible to students speaking Swahili, Bulgarian, Tagalog, Hindi, Mandarin, Tamil, Haitian Creole, Gujarati, Urdu, Hmong and 85 other languages.

Addressing a National Challenge

44% of 4th-grade English language learners score below the “Basic” level in math (the lowest level). Unfortunately, the percentage scoring below this level increases to 69% by the 8th grade. In other words, they fall further and further behind each year.

In the Los Angeles Unified School District, 91 languages are spoken with 171,000 English language learners enrolled; 146 languages are spoken in the Las Vegas area and 159 languages are spoken in the New York City School District.

By not having math materials in their native language, far too many English language learners never have the chance to keep pace with their English-speaking peers, but rather fall behind and stay behind. These students desperately need a high-quality, core STEM math tool (including an assessment) in their native language.

A donation from you will provide us with the crucial stepping stones we need to put Math4ALL into the hands of these children.
