Originally established in 1902 as the hub of the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company, Historic Stearns remains one of the last and best preserved “company” towns in America, where visitors can discover the Big South Fork Scenic Railway, the McCreary County Museum and the rich coal mining and lumber heritage of Kentucky.

The McCreary County Heritage Foundaion is seeking donations to rebuild part of the historic town damaged by fire, restore one of our old steam locomotives and maintain the interpretive efforts of the Museum.

Your donations will help with our continuing efforts to rebuild, restore and interpret this enduring American experience.
