About Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud:

• While Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud are members of Meals on Wheels of America, we are an independent, nonprofit organization governed by a local board of directors.
• 100% of all money raised for Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud stays in our local community to feed seniors in the Loveland and Berthoud Communities.
• Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud has been serving low-income homebound seniors for 47 years.
• Annually, we feed over 500 clients and deliver over 60,000 meals to homebound seniors who are not able to cook meals for themselves. Without our services, many of our clients would not get a hot, nutritious meal.

Our Program

• We target low-income, isolated, frail seniors with our largest population being widowed women in their mid-80s.
• We deliver lunch Monday-Friday, including most holidays. To meet the needs of our clients during other times of the day and on the weekends, we provide supplementary frozen meals.
• Under the supervision of a registered dietitian, each of our meals, provides 600 calories and one-third of the adult recommended daily intake.
• Investing in meal delivery programs like Meals on Wheels makes sense as it currently costs us $6.00 per meal or $1,440 per year to feed one client. That is much less than the 1-day average hospital cost of $2,190. For many of our clients, a hospital stay would equal thousands. ( Kaiser Family Foundation)
• In addition to receiving a warm meal, our volunteer drivers ensure our clients’ safety. They offer a warm smile and a friendly hello! Volunteer drivers report back to the Meals on Wheels staff to alert us of any potential unsafe situations.
• Unlike many other meal delivery programs across the country, we do not currently have a waiting list for services. Without additional funding to meet the increased need, we cannot guarantee that we will not have a waiting list in the future.
• Without our program many homebound seniors would face hunger and a diminished quality of life. These are our parents and grandparents who have reached a point in their lives where they just need a little help.
