M.A.I.N. is an Arizona based, all volunteer group focused on identifying, transporting, aiding and promoting animals from Arizona shelters who need immediate and often costly medical attention the shelters are unable to provide. We are a group of people who saw a need in our county’s shelter system...the need for providing medical care to the sick and injured animals brought into these shelters on a daily basis. We began working together to address and correct this issue. Each day, Maricopa County’s (MCACC) animal shelters take in approximately 150 stray or unwanted dogs, meaning kennels originally designed for one animal are typically packed with four or more. MCACC is the nation’s second largest shelter, and sadly any available space must be given to healthy, adoptable animals. M.A.I.N. is here for the injured and sick who stand no chance at all of being rescued in these shelters. We have developed close working relationships with both the East and West MCACC locations as well as local shelters around the state. We are available to these shelters and to these dogs 24/7 – and in 2012, more than 150 were saved from euthanasia as a result. After rescue, these animals are provided much needed (and often costly) medical care at our partner vet in Phoenix. The animals recover in loving foster homes and once medically cleared, are placed up for adoption through M.A.I.N.
