After twenty-six years of service, it is very natural for me to answer the question, “What is the Mental Health Association?”  I begin by saying that our agency is not a provider of professional mental health services.  We are an educational, support agency.   Look at the logo on the Walk-A-Thon t-shirts which says “Under the Umbrella with MHA.”  Written in the sand are names of some of the many programs and services we provide such as Alzheimer’s programs, substance abuse prevention programs, rape response advocacy programs, programs for adults recovering from serious mental illness, summer camp for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and support groups.

One of the things of which I’m most proud is the collaboration our agency has with other community agencies, mental health providers, law enforcement, school systems, parents, students, families, and others.  When we receive a call for information or referral, I am pleased to have knowledge about the many programs and services that are available in our community.  All of us are being affected by unprecedented economic challenges.

I believe in the Mental Health Association.  I believe in our community.  Working together we will survive these difficult times.  Thank you for caring.
