Mercy Education Project

Mercy Education Project (MEP) provides free education for women and girls in Southwest Detroit. We tutor girls one-to-one and help women earn their GEDs, all at no cost. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1992, we've spent more than three decades proving that when one woman or girl empowers herself through education, a ripple effect of success reaches her whole family and community.

What We Do

GIRLS' PROGRAM 

• • One-to-one afterschool tutoring offered three times per week in reading or math.
  • Includes shared meal and activity time sponsored by community organizations and aligned supporters.
  • College and Career Readiness program supports high schoolers in their journey to becoming young professionals.
  • Extracurricular afterschool STEM clubs for various grade levels.

WOMEN'S PROGRAM

• • Comprehensive adult basic education and GED courses that support women from diverse academic backgrounds.
  • Six instructors/tutors that work to help each woman meet their goals.
  • Workforce development provides supplemental programming such as lunch and learns, external educational experiences from various community partners, and more.
