At Mesquite Elementary School we are teaching the students that you can take garbage and turn it into food. This can be done by taking the water bottle, aluminum can, or tuna can from the garbage and recycling it. We will then take it to the local recycle center and get money for it.

The money we raise is then donated to the Casa Grande Food Bank and the local Humane society.

This past school year, we recycled 13,054 lbs. of #1 plastic, 3,189 lbs. of aluminum cans, and 2,303 lbs. of metal cans. We took the $4,000 that we received from our recycling and gave $3,000 to the Casa Grande Food Bank and $1,000 to the local humane society.

We teach community service to our students, and we do this by recycling, helping our earth, and helping people in our community. So you can indeed take garbage and turn it into food!
