The Metropolitan Housing Coalition has worked tirelessly for over 30 years on behalf of safe, fair, and affordable housing in the Louisville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). MHC is a private, non-profit organization supported by over 300 individuals and organizations as coalition members who believe safe, decent housing is a basic human right. We strengthen, unite, and mobilize private and public resources to provide fair, accessible, and affordable housing for everyone in our Louisville community. MHC does this through via research, advocacy, community education, and coalition-building.

  • Fighting for racial, housing, health, and environmental justice.
  • Publishing the 2022 State of Metropolitan Housing Report focusing on a just housing future after uncertain times
  • Educating the community about the essential role of fair, accessible, and affordable housing.
  • Working to change exclusionary housing policies and institutional practices that create and maintain inequity and deny people opportunities and choices.
  • Building alliances to influence decision-making, shift politics, and change cultural values towards equity and fairness for all.
  • Jointly intervening on behalf of low- and fixed-income households before the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) in the LG&E-KU Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) case and is currently jointly intervening in two cases before the PSC, one focused on the Fuel Adjustment Clause and another focused on the CPCN-DSM and Senate Bill 4 coal-fired plant retirements

MHC’s success is shown continuously through collecting data that advocate on behalf of low-income households, and prioritize stable and affordable housing for marginalized groups so that families forge a path out of poverty. The MHC report has been essential in helping residents and policymakers understand housing needs in the community and creating programs and policies that improve the quality of life for all Louisville residents and MHC hopes to continue providing research and information for the greater Louisville.
