Metropolitan Washington Ear (MWE) brings current news and information to 5,400 people who are blind, have low vision, or have a physical disability that prevents them from reading print. MWE has a staff of six full and part-time employees who manage a volunteer force of 300 plus individuals who read newspapers, magazines, journals, bulletins, shopping and grocery ads on a daily basis. Our radio and Dial-in services bring current news and information. We provide audio description for live theater. MWE offers a daily look-up service staffed by trained volunteers to find needed information for our blind listeners. MWE also offers weekly schedules of audio described television programming and movies throughout the area. For 50 years, our services have enabled equity of access by making text-based information both online and in print accessible to people who cannot read print.
