MetroStage is a professional not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to producing an eclectic season of contemporary plays and musicals that are chosen to enrich, enlighten and entertain, and that reflect the diverse population of the Washington metropolitan area.  MetroStage presents original, challenging, and innovative work: work that is often unpredictable, work that tells a compelling story, and showcases remarkable talent and music.

Our 130+ seat theatre offers both actors and audiences an opportunity to experience theatre in an intimate, communal setting. MetroStage works with playwrights and composers and is recognized for its commitment to diversity and its role in the development of new plays and musicals for the stage, as well as cabarets and concerts, all showcasing the best artists, both local and regional. 

METROSTAGE BRINGS THE HIGHEST ARTISTIC STANDARDS TO OUR COMMUNITY,  serving nearby residents as well as attracting patrons from the DC metro area, thereby being an economic engine for Alexandria as well as contributing to the designation of Alexandria as an "Arts Destination City". MetroStage has served Alexandria economically, culturally and socially for  over four decades. The underserved are offered free tickets, nonprofits receive gift certificates to auction at their fundraisers, student and recent graduates get professional training and experience and opportunities to join a professional union: just a few examples of how MetroStage serves the community over and beyond producing exemplary theatrical productions.

After 20 years on N. Royal St, we lost our theatre. but will reemerge around the corner in an exciting new theatre (915 N. Fairfax St.) which will be the Arts Anchor for the newly designated Arts and Cultural District in Old Town North. "Off Broadway on the River's Edge" continues!
