MetroStage is a professional not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to producing an eclectic season of contemporary plays and musicals that are chosen to enrich, enlighten and entertain, and that reflect the diverse population of the Washington metropolitan area.  MetroStage presents original, challenging, and innovative work: work that is often unpredictable and nontraditional, work that tells a compelling story and showcases remarkable talent.

Our 130 seat theatre presents opportunities for both the actors and the audience to experience theatre in an intimate, communal setting. MetroStage also works with playwrights and composers and is recognized for its role in the development of new plays and musicals for the stage.

MetroStage brings the highest artistic standards to our community, entertaining nearby residents as well as attracting patrons from the entire metro area and beyond, thereby being an economic engine for Alexandria as well as contributing to the designation of Alexandria as an arts destination city.

MetroStage serves Alexandria artistically, economically and socially. The underserved are offered free tickets, nonprofits receive gift certificates to auction at their fundraisers, student and recent graduates get professional training and experience and opportunities to join a professional union, and these are just a few examples of how MetroStage serves the community over and beyond producing exemplary theatrical productions.

Royal St, we lost our theatre. but will reemerge around the corner in an exciting new theatre (915 N. Fairfax St.) which will be the Arts Anchor for the newly designated Arts and Cultural District in Old Town North. "Off Broadway on the River's Edge" continues!
