MISSION
Mi Casa de Angeles, which means “My House of Angels,” is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness, and focuses on providing a higher quality education for needy children in Peru that will thereby empower them, give them confidence, and most importantly, give them a chance to succeed and break the barriers of poverty that currently hold them back every single day.
ABOUT
Founded in 2009 by Stanford student, Gabriella Brignardello, Mi Casa de Angeles is dedicated improving the quality of education in the impoverished areas throughout Peru. The inspiration for creating this non-profit organization came to Gabriella at a very early age while visiting Peru and witnessing the hardships that many destitute children faced on a daily basis. She immediately realized that she wanted to make a change in these children's lives.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Needy Peruvian children face three main problems: poverty, chronic malnutrition, and lack of education. The goal of Mi Casa de Angeles is to provide a community-supported and positive environment, a safe place to learn, healthy nutrition, and a high level of education for these children. Mi Casa de Angeles is committed to empowering these children with knowledge and improving their lives so that they can have a better opportunity to succeed in society.
Thus far, Mi Casa de Angeles has raised approximately $125,000 in the USA through donations, community and corporate support, and local fundraisers (e.g. 3 Benefit Fashion Shows, 3 large-scale Garage/Parking Lot Sales, a Movie Night), as well as another $75,000 in Peru with its Peruvian NGO partners. Currently, Mi Casa de Angeles is planning several upcoming events for 2014, including the a LA Marathon fundraising team, a Bowling Night, a Movie Night, and several restaurant promotional fundraisers.
Mi Casa de Angeles's pilot program in 2012 was the sponsorship of one 'joven líder' or young leader (who is highly trained and qualified to teach in public schools) through a Peruvian NGO, Enseña Perú (Teach Peru). These highly trained teachers have been proven to positively impact about 100 students in Peru's public school system which serves the impoverished population who cannot afford private education.
Mi Casa de Angeles’s second and current program in Peru is the construction and maintenance of a nursery/daycare and preschool in the shantytown of Pachacutec in the outskirts of Lima, that will be completed through collaboration with two other Peruvian non-profit organizations, Sembrando Juntos and Lincos. This nursery/daycare and preschool will directly benefit 3,600 families by providing the children, ages 0 to 5, in this community with the best foundation for higher quality of education.
