Mid-City Ministries

Believing that each child is blessed with unique gifts, Mid-City Ministries seeks to assist the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of underserved children and teens in our community. Through after-school tutoring, summer camp, monthly enrichment activities, and ongoing mentoring programs, we help our children grow into adults equipped for a positive future and motivated to use their gifts to serve their own communities.

• Kid-City Summer Camp is a three-week, free day camp that works to reduce summer learning loss while providing enrichment activities, field trips, art, drama and dance and so much more. Campers are rising first grade through sixth grade. Once our campers become 7th graders, they can become camp counselors where they learn communication skills, conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork and other personal and job skills. 
• Our Kid-City program also provides academic enrichment activities monthly during the school year. Affectionately known as "camp reunions," these programs are open to students from K-6th grade, with our 7th to 12th grade students volunteering and facilitating events. Activities include service projects, crafts, character development, service projects, and more
• Teenagers participate in Possibilities, a career/college prep program that meets monthly. This mentoring program is a critical component. A typical session centers on a topic designed to expose teens to career opportunities, job readiness skills, college or skilled labor prep, personal growth or self-care, or community awareness. These topics are explored through guest speakers, hands-on experiences, field trips and group discussions. Biannually, this group takes an overnight trip to visit college campuses and explore areas of historic importance to the children we serve. Past trips included time in Birmingham exploring civil rights sites, Lafayette understanding the Acadian diaspora, and in Houston experiencing STEM opportunities.
