Howard Bishop Middle School – A Community School

The community school at Howard Bishop is a multi-disciplinary project aimed at ultimately providing a wide range of services to an underserved community. Our interest in creating a community school is based on our belief that we CAN make a positive difference in a community that is at risk; bring the hope of a brighter future to students, families and community members while creating the educational setting as the heartbeat of the community. Children’s Home Society of Florida in partnership with the School Board of Alachua County, the Alachua County Health Department, the University of Florida and Santa Fe College is committed to the implementation of a community school at Howard Bishop Middle School. The community school will provide a wide range of services not only to the students attending the school, but to the community as a whole. Donations to this project will provide much needed funds to provide staffing for this project.

Mid Florida Community Counseling

Every 47 seconds, another child in the U.S. suffers the brutalities of abuse or neglect. The Community Counseling program is designed to bring clinical interventions to clients in their homes. Most clients with Medicaid coverage are eligible for these services. Our clinical team is versed in a variety of trainings and clinical strengths to meet the needs of clients. Our counselors provide support to families and children in the local community. Support for this program provides funding for evaluation and assessment tools.

Mid Florida Visitation Centers

Nearly 2.8 million U.S. children and teens run away every year. Most run to escape issues at home. Family Visitation Centers provide safe environments where children and their families can spend time together during court-ordered supervised visits. Here, caring caseworkers demonstrate positive role modeling for parents while ensuring children are safe. Additionally, these centers allow divorce d parents to exchange their children in a neutral setting. Your support provides funds that assist with the upkeep of our center (located in Gainesville).
