Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group engages people in active stewardship of local streams, rivers, and shorelines throughout the central Puget Sound region. Community support gives salmon a chance to thrive in our streams and shorelines now and in the future.

+ Salmon in Schools
Elementary schools in White Center, Des Moines, Kent, and Auburn watch salmon transform -- right in the classroom! -- from egg, to alevin, to fry before releasing them into a nearby stream so they can journey to the ocean. Our incredible and inspiring education and outreach staff deliver engaging lessons and support classroom teachers in keeping the salmon learning going between visits.

+ Tree planting
Planting native trees along creeks and streams is so good – for people and for salmon! Trees shade streams and creeks to keep them cool. Their roots stabilize banks so the water isn’t murky. And little bugs fall from overhanging branches for salmon to eat. We plant thousands of trees every year with our in-house crew and with volunteers just like you!

+ Creation of more salmon friendly beaches
We work with landowners to remove unnecessary bulkheads (hard shoreline armoring). When we reconnect nearshore land and water, we can restore natural ecosystem processes like leaves, insects, and big wood falling into the water to provide food and shelter for migrating salmon. Bulkhead removal also creates easier access to beaches for people, enhances the natural beauty of shoreline properties, and creates resilience to climate change impacts.
