Miss Fran's Teaching Garden

A nonprofit organization

Miss Fran's Teaching Garden strives to create unique learning opportunities for the students of Tool Elementary by providing the environment, resources and expertise to plant, nurture, and harvest fresh fruits and vegetables in their own edible garden.

Miss Fran's Teaching Garden is a 501c3 non-profit established in 2022 to educate the students of Tool Elementary (Pre-K thru 4th grade) on growing their own food and caring for their environment. Our Environmental Stewardship Program includes Water Conservation, Composting, Saving the Monarch, Kids Garden Club, Soil Importance, and seasonal planting and harvesting. During the first three years, Miss Fran's Garden donated over 2500 lbs of fresh produce (100% of harvests) to the Community Food Pantry in Tool. As we planned for the 2024-25 school year, we elected to designate the yield of 20 of our 28 bins for the students to take home to their families-the foods they planted, nurtured and harvested, then helped prep and cook to provide a meal for their family. To continue our commitment to supporting our community, the harvest from the remaining 8 bins is reserved for the Community Food Pantry in Tool. Introducing the new foods and practices to the Pre-K thru 4thGrades, framed in an educational environment can require additional equipment and teaching aids plus occasional fees for visiting professional instructors and speakers. We're hoping for that support from our community.
