Mission Hospice and Home Care Inc

Founded in 1979, Mission Hospice & Home Care serves San Mateo County, as well as surrounding communities, with quality care and compassionate support. We are a local, independent organization and have provided thousands of patients and their families with physical, emotional, and spiritual support throughout the journey from a life-threatening diagnosis through death and the process of bereavement.

Our bottom line is patient care. Our dedicated staff and well-trained volunteers help ensure that our patients spend their final months in comfort and dignity, with the support they and their families need. We have the lowest patient-to-nurse ratio in the Bay Area, allowing our staff to provide the intensely personal, individualized care for which we are known. We tailor a care plan especially for each patient, with sensitivities to cultural, religious, and personal preferences. We don’t just provide medical care – we offer compassion.

We have expanded our services to care for people who are not yet ready for hospice, but who need skilled nursing, home care, therapy, emotional support, or other assistance. This continuum of care allows us to serve patients at every stage of a life-limiting illness, and enables a smooth and timely transition to hospice when appropriate.

Because of our reputation for quality, personalized care, we are experiencing unprecedented growth. We are now caring for more than four times as many patients and families annually as we did just five years ago.

Our dream is to open the County’s first hospice house to provide a peaceful, home-like setting for patients at the very end of life whose comfort cannot be managed in their own homes. We are exploring opportunities for meeting this important community need.

Donations and grants help support patients not covered by insurance or Medicare, or when insurance doesn’t cover the actual costs of delivering quality care and service – which is often the case. Donations and grants also power a number of critical, non-funded community programs, including our volunteer-led Transitions program, our Bereavement and Grief Support programs, and our educational forums for community members and health providers.
