Governor Bryant's hateful anti-immigrant speech shows his racist attitudes as he tries to stop children from reuniting with their families in Mississippi while awaiting immigration hearings.  MIRA knows that his supporters and other cronies will buy into the misinformation motivated by fear and hatred that drive ridiculous stories of diseased terrorist gang members taking over our borders.  MIRA knows the desperate children fleeing to our borders need our compassion and our support. We cannot allow our state to go backwards on the issue of immigrants' rights.  As recently as 2012, Mississippi State Rep. Becky Currie tried to pass a law that would prohibit undocumented children from attending school.  We defeated this and many other hate-filled bills in 2012, 2013, and 2014, but we must prepare ourselves for an increase in anti-immigration sentiment fueled by Bryant's xenophobia in the next legislative session.  A donation to MIRA will allow us to mobilize immigrants all over the state of  to fight for their rights. 

Our Civic Engagement Day allows for both documented and undocumented families to speak directly to their legislators with their personal stories.  We have found this to be the most effective way to open the hearts and minds of the lawmakers who affect us all.  We need to make a big showing, and we can't do that without your help!  We will be travelling throughout the state to provide education and training to the immigrants who will lead delegations to the capitol.  We will be bussing these brave families in for  the big meet with politicians in Jackson.  Please let the love of our fellow man outshine the narrow minds of those who would turn children back to their deaths in violent and impoverished countries.  Make your donation today to ensure policy makers hear  the voices of both documented and undocumented immigrants who have a dream to become part of our growing economy and prosperity.
