About Misspits Rescue

Misspits Rescue was created in 2013 as a pit bull rescue. As the years went on, we grew and accepted other breeds in need, and my home became too small to hold us. In 2017, I sold my Gig Harbor home and bought 12 acres in Oakville. What a life change!

I quickly learned of the huge need for safe places for farmed animals. As a longtime vegan, I was eager to help. I assisted with two cruelty cases and took in pigs, a horse, and a rooster. From there, Misspits became a sanctuary home to animals of all kinds. We continue to help animal control and local shelters whenever we can.

We haven’t forgotten our roots, though! We still rescue and adopt out dogs, primarily bully types. We also take many herding breeds as the farm is often what they need. Old dogs have always had a special place in my heart so whenever we can, we take them too. We get them as healthy as possible and let them enjoy the farm life for as long as they have. Some are healthy enough to go on to new homes, others call the farm home. These are my personal favorite dogs to take but their medical bills are almost always high.

Misspits Rescue is home to more than 100 animals, from fish to horses. We also have on average of 10-12 dogs at all times.

We are supported almost completely by donations. We appreciate every single dollar! We have a small but mighty team of volunteers to help keep costs down and stretch funds as far as possible.

Current Fundraising Needs

For GiveBIG 2024, we're raising funds to help cover some of our recent veterinary costs. With over 100 animals, you can imagine costs are quite high! In just the last month we’ve had over $5,000 in vet bills for our dogs alone. We also have a large equine bill coming up for yearly vaccines and dental work. Chica, our senior cattle dog mix who came back to us after 9 years when her owner recently passed away, is due for a dental too, estimated to cost $1,100-$1,300.

If you're able, please help us cover some of these costs to keep our friends healthy and happy. Every dollar counts, no donation is too small.

Thank you for your support!
