Mobile Education Center for All

A nonprofit organization

Purpose

Mobile Education Center for All (MECA) is dedicated to bridging the educational gap for children who are homebound due to medical conditions, disabilities, or other life circumstances that prevent them from attending traditional schools. Our goal is to provide high-quality, accessible learning opportunities that ensure these students receive the academic support they need to succeed. By bringing education directly to them - whether through in-person tutoring, mobile learning spaces, or virtual instruction - MECA empowers students to continue their education despite their challenges.

History

MECA was founded by Sharon Samelson Massiatte, an experienced educator with a passion for educational equity and inclusion. With a background in general and special education, as well as a strong commitment to diversity due to her own family history, Sharon recognized the urgent need for accessible learning solutions for children who are unable to attend traditional school settings. MECA was created to remove barriers to education by offering free tutoring and academic support, funded through donations and community partnerships. Since its inception, MECA has worked tirelessly to establish a sustainable model that meets the unique needs of homebound students, ensuring that learning remains possible regardless of circumstances.

The Nature and Extent of the Problem

Thousands of children across the country face significant disruptions in their education due to chronic illnesses, disabilities, or personal circumstances such as homelessness or family hardships. Many of these students fall behind academically because they lack access to consistent, high-quality instruction. Public school systems often struggle to provide individualized support for homebound students, leaving many with limited educational options. The impact of this gap extends beyond academics; students facing prolonged isolation from traditional learning environments often experience increased anxiety, depression, and a lack of social development.

MECA directly addresses these challenges by ensuring that homebound children receive the academic, social, and emotional support they need. Through personalized tutoring, interactive learning experiences, and emotional regulation strategies, we help students stay engaged, build confidence, and achieve their educational goals. By collaborating with families, educators, and community organizations, MECA creates a network of support that empowers children to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
