Adjacent to Langan Park, the Gardens encompass a 100-acre site of cultivated gardens, woodland trails, and a longleaf pine forest restoration. Established in 1974 by a dedicated group of horticulturists to preserve the natural aspects of the local environment, the Gardens have grown and developed into an oasis for the community.
Through twice yearly plant sales and its ReBloom program, the Gardens also provides hundreds of plants suitable for Gulf Coast Gardens that are publicly available nowhere else. As a stand-alone non-profit, these sales also provide a significant part of our operating budget.
The Gardens are home to one of the most diverse collections of camellias and azaleas in the U.S., as well as a 35 acre long leaf pine restoration area. It is also home to the gopher tortoise, which is listed as "threatened." Ours are in fact doing quite well, along with bluebirds, titmice, and many other species of animals and insects.
MBG is dedicated to education and preservation so that residents and visitors alike may experience and learn about our unique Gulf Coast environment.
