The mission of Moms Helping Moms Foundation is to provide underserved families in New Jersey with equitable access to the essentials they need to provide their children with a safe and healthy start.
MHM was founded in 2011 by Bridget Cutler, with a few moms distributing items directly to a hundred or so families out of her garage. In 2013, we received nonprofit status. In 2018, we officially launched our network of now 68 partner agencies (domestic violence shelters, daycare centers, health centers, and food banks). This simple idea has transformed into a rapidly growing nonprofit that collectively helps over 33,000 New Jersey families.
MHM has five main programs to help us achieve our mission:
Healthy Start for Babies: Distributes almost 900,000 critical essentials per year, including 549,000+ diapers.
Early Literacy: Each child we serve receives at least two books. Literature is provided to parents/caregivers on the importance of early reading, talking and singing with children.
Healthy Periods: Launched in 2019. Distributed 105,000+ period products in 2021.
Safe Start: Launched in 2021 to distribute brand new car seats to our families.
Advocacy: Actively advocate local, state and federal lawmakers and agencies on behalf of the families we serve to increase awareness of diaper need and push for equitable solutions. We participate in the annual recognition of Diaper Need Awareness Week and Period Poverty Awareness Week.
Here are some clients stories:
"I am a teen mother with a four year old son. Sometimes being a young mom is very hard. We have lots of things on our plate and dealing with everything can be stressful. Working, studying and taking care of my son is a lot. Buying everything that they need is a struggle. I thank God for the help of daycare center and Moms Helping Moms. Moms Helping Moms helped me so much and has made my life so much easier. I have also been able to help other young moms by sharing my donations and passing down the things my son has out grown. All of the clothing, baby wipes and diapers has helped me so much. It takes away a little bit of the worry."
"I have a 2 year old daughter named Emily. Moms Helping Moms has helped me and my family over the past two years in so many ways. They have given me pampers, toys and clothes for my daughter so that she could have something to play with and have clothes to wear. I appreciate everything they have been able to do to help me be the best mom I can be."
