Monadnock Family Services (MFS) is proud to be New
Hampshire’s oldest community mental health organization, serving our region
since 1905. For over a century, we've been here—helping our neighbors
heal, grow, and thrive. Each day, we walk alongside children, adults, and
families as they navigate life’s challenges—offering support that empowers
healing, fosters connection, and builds resilience. From crisis response to
long-term therapy, our work helps people not just survive, but truly thrive.

MFS is the leading community mental health center serving 38
towns across Cheshire and western Hillsborough counties. Each year, we support
over 2,400 children, adults, and families through more than a dozen
programs—ranging from youth development and parent education to elder care,
substance misuse recovery, and clinical therapy for individuals and families
experiencing mental illness.

🌼 Why Give to MFS?

James was just 9 years old when he arrived at MFS, struggling with anxiety and
unsure of how to express what he was feeling. He joined Funky Feet,
our movement therapy group for kids, where laughter and dance became a bridge
to healing. “I was nervous to join Funky Feet because I wasn’t good at groups,”
James said. “But I got comfortable talking, playing, and realizing I wasn’t the
only one having a hard time.” Now James is thriving. He receives both
individual and family therapy—and he’s found his voice. His advice to other
kids? “You’re not the only one with a problem. And the people here are just
trying to help you.” His mother says: “At first, I was nervous. Now I’m so
happy to see him confident in who he is.”

Who We Are

Monadnock Family Services (MFS) is a non-profit, comprehensive, community mental health agency serving 35 towns in Cheshire and western Hillsborough counties in southwestern NH. Each year our team of 200 associates serve approximately 800 children and youth who have serious emotional and behavioral disturbances; many other children and youth through our community prevention activities conducted in partnership with area school districts and other youth-serving organizations; and almost 1600 adults through a variety of counseling and support services.
Our Mission is to be a source of health and hope for people and the communities in which they live, particularly as it pertains to mental illness. We create services that heal, education that transforms, and advocacy that brings a just society for everyone.
