Montessori School for Young Children Inc

August 15, 1978 marked the birth of MSYC as a non-profit corporation.  At that time, 22 students were attending the Montessori classroom mornings at Vine Congregational Church, taught by Lynette Kohles.  We can look with pride at the significant growth we’ve undergone since 1978.  Now, with a staff of three Directresses (averaging over 20 years with MSYC)  and five assistants, two Spanish Directresses, and an Executive Director, MSYC has an enrollment of approximately 70 students in 5 classes.  We are now on our second generation of families attending MSYC!

Parents or guardians of enrolled children become members of the MSYC non-profit corporation.  Families volunteer over 1,500 hours each year, offering their time and expertise to keep our school a place we can all feel proud of inside and out.  That may mean showing up on a cool fall day to throw down mulch or spending a few Saturday hours painting or washing windows. It could mean serving on the Board of Directors or volunteering to share a special skill or talent in one of our classrooms or the office.  It may mean serving on one of the many committees that keep our school experience rich for students and parents.  MSYC is truly a “home away from home” for our students and their families.     

Our Outdoor Classroom is continuously expanding with the newest addition being an outdoor stage.  This year's graduating families hope to replace the wooden bridge in our outdoor classroom for future students to enjoy. 

We are challenged by the need for non-tuition funds to keep our school vital and we maintain a wish list of items and services that current funding just can’t cover.  Hoping to honor Maria Montessori’s legacy, we try to make a Montessori education available to children from every economic status by offering scholarships to families in need.
