Our Mission
River Region Trails, Inc. is committed to developing a network of bicycle and pedestrian greenways, parks, and outdoor resources in the River Region. Our organization coordinates the efforts of citizens, corporate partners, and local governments to plan, fund, and develop natural space for public use, which will invariably have a positive impact on community health, quality of life, tourism, economic development, transportation, and neighborhood connectivity. Our organization incorporated in January of 2020 and has been focused on the development of recreational and pedestrian trails and pathways throughout Montgomery including a 30-mile loop that will help to connect our City in a new and safe way. Region Trails, Inc. and its partners have a vision for a regional trail spine that would connect residents and visitors of Montgomery. It would be a “trail for all,” providing a ribbon of healthy living, economic growth, quality of life, recreation, and transportation. Along the envisioned loop is Cypress Park, a unique ecological area that is a jewel in Montgomery. The Park has the potential of providing opportunity for recreational access, education, and conservation.
WHY TRAILS? WHY NOW?
Montgomery needs lasting investments. Let’s put our dollars and resources to work to connect our communities, centered on trails as a unifying infrastructure. No other single type of investment impacts as many aspects of our lives, including health, safety, mobility, recreation, environment, and economic development. Now is the time to make an investment that will connect our communities and benefit the people of Montgomery for generations to come.
Greenway trails can help Montgomery to continue growing as a vibrant community. Trails support economic development, promote active lifestyles, provide transportation options, allow a connection with nature and give us the opportunity to connect with our neighbors.
Outdoor recreation is a $14 billion Industry in Alabama. Greenway trails are an important infrastructure that supports that industry. Outdoor recreation is going to play a huge role in the COVID recovery process. There is no question that a project like this is great for the health of our residents and the health of our economy.
With the pandemic, trail use has doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled in some locations based on automated trail count data. People need safe, socially-distant space for recreation, exercise, community, and sanity.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
In order to develop a world-class trail and park in Montgomery, we need a world-class planning process and product that sets the framework for project development. This is an opportunity to play a huge role in the legacy of Montgomery. Thank you for your consideration!
