The mission of the Heart of Alabama Food Bank is to nourish the hungry by educating and mobilizing the community, engaging in partnerships that advance self-sufficiency, and gathering then distributing food and other necessities across 35 Alabama counties.

We collect, warehouse and distribute surplus food and other grocery products (at no cost to the recipients), through our Montgomery warehouse, our PDO’s, and our over 800 partner agencies, to people who are unable to provide adequately for themselves and their families.

Last year, we distributed more than 20 million pounds — the equivalent of roughly 660 tractor trailer loads!

The needy we reach include: children (40%), the elderly (20%), and others (40%), including: the newly unemployed, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally challenged, victims of domestic violence and disasters, among others.

For every dollar donated to the HAFB, we can provide 6.5 pounds of food, or over six meals, to families in need.

HAFB serves the following 35 counties: Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Butler, Chilton, Coffee, Coosa, Crenshaw, Dale, Dallas, Elmore, Fayette, Geneva, Greene, Hale, Henry, Houston, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Sumter, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Wilcox
