Mothers Against Murder

Today, May 3, 2016, a devastated brother of a beautiful woman suspected of being driven to kill herself called again very frustrated by the system who is not responding as it should. This call is typical and it tells MAM we are the only sincere support out there. Last year around Giving Tuesday on May 4, 2015, MAM visited a very brave 24 yr. old young woman whose world was shatterred nearly two years ago when her loving mother was killed. MAM has been an unmatched support to this family of three siblings, but so much more is needed to provide a decent level of comfort and pave the way to healing. "K" says MAM is the angel her mother put in place for them. We want to continue to strengthen our services and need your help.

In January 2014, few hundred dollars stood between Juan, 55 year-old-murder victim, and his final resting place. His mother already lost her son to a murderer's bullet on an East San Jose street, then faced the thousands of dollars it cost for the funeral services. The State Victim Compensation's maximum $5000 award is far too little to fully cover these costs. Even with a car wash fund-raise and help from family and friends, the mother was short on funds. The funeral home demanded the final $400 payment before services can take place. The devastated mother found Mothers Against Murder and we immediately helped. The funeral services moved on as scheduled. The emotional rollercoaster the mother had to endure trying to bury her son is a shining example of how little resources are out there to help families of murder victims!

On Monday, 1/13/2014, 19-year-old Josue was walking down the street of his house when he was killed by a random drive-by shooters who fled the scene. Imagine his
loving mother, a decent hard working woman hearing this shocking news? How can any mother handle this much pain? Add to this emotional pain the fact that the mother couldn't afford to bury her youngest son. Instead, her low-income Catholic family had to go against their religious beliefs and cremate the body of Josue. Mothers Against Murder was there to immediately help with emergency crisis intervention, referal to resources, media contacts to advertise a car wash fund-raise event and advocacy with elected officials to correct a wrong decision made on an assistance program.

To instantly lose a healthy, loving, caring, hardworking son that financially helped support  the household is devastating!! The truth is a mother's life is never the same after losing a child to a vicious act of murder. Life goes on, but the pain never ends. At Mothers Against Murder, we understand and feel the pain that families go through. We are certain nothing can be done to erase the pain, but we know our compassionate support makes a difference in the healing process. A crucial task is the immediate assistance with finding resources to give the victim a decent funeral / burial services.
