Mountain Meddlers

Against all odds, the Gold Hill School has remained in continual operation ever since it first opened in the fall of 1873 as a one room log schoolhouse. It narrowly survived being destroyed by a wind driven wildfire in November of 1894 when the entire town was saved by a dramatic change of wind and the onset of a snowstorm. Another type of storm threatened to close the school in 1964 when the Boulder Valley School District very nearly decided to close the school. Only through national media attention and the entire population of Gold Hill protesting the decision was the school able to remain open. In 2010, the school also survived the Four Mile fire where numerous houses were lost in the area. A lucky wind change allowed a slurry bomber to drop a line of slurry to protect the historical town. Although its enrollment has fluctuated wildly from one student to eighty in its 140 years of operation, the Gold Hill School is the longest continually operating school in Colorado and remains a tremendous source of pride and community for the town of Gold Hill.

 

 Gold Hill School offers personalized, hands-on education that allows students to grow and learn through differentiated instruction in a supportive learning atmosphere. Having two teachers for 25 students allows this kind of learning environment to flourish. 
 
In addition to offering an academic program aligned with the challenging district and state standards, GHS offers several unique opportunities for children, including Living History Day, music programs, school plays, skiing, outdoor education, team-building, and more.

Although we are a public school within the Boulder Valley School District, our size is small and we heavily rely upon fundraising in Gold Hill and the surronding community to support our student activities. 

Mountain Meddlers our Gold Hill School's PTO is a 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations as such are tax-deductible. All donations will go directly to the students of Gold Hill School.
