The Mountain Top Small Animal Sanctuary-Shelter, Inc, also known as Mt Top S.A.S.S. is a rural Sanctuary dealing with the cat overpopulation problem by doing Trap/Neuter/Return and by taking in strays from people who are moving into low income housing or nursing homes where pets are not allowed. In the TNR part of our service we provide help for the 7 towns and 2 villages that make up the Mountain Top area. Whenever we hear of a feral or stray group of cats (ferals) we go in with 7 traps, trap whoever we can and take them to be spayed/neutered. The adults and adolescents are returned to the area where they were trapped and being fed by neighbors but the kittens are brought here to be domesticated and hopefully placed in forever, loving homes. Kittens that cannot be placed in a regular home because they could not be domesticated or had a medical issue or nobody wanted them are promised a home here with us at The Sanctuary for the rest of their lives. They are not caged and only allowed freedom part of the day but rather, the entire first floor is there's to roam through, play with anything or anyone that happens to be around and sleep and eat when they want to. Of course, litter boxes are everywhere and everyone is litter box trained. Those that were too feral to be adopted out often relax once they are in the general population and begin to like the company of humans. Many become the greatest lap cats you could ever hope to have while a very few others can never be touched safely. Once they are here at The Sanctuary they are 100% indoor cats and don't really seem to mind. Just knowing no one is going to hurt them, no predator is after them, they don't need to fight for food, and they can sleep with both eyes tightly closed knowing they are safe is all they ever really wanted and love is available anytime they choose to accept it makes for a pampered and happy cat no matter where they originally came from. It does get expensive to support the cats that call The Sanctuary home as well as to do the trapping and care for strays that no one else will bother with so we are coming to you to ask if you will help us help them?
