Moving Out, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

In 1992 a group of parents got together to address a common concern. Rather than relying on group homes or other impersonal facilities, they wanted their young adult children with disabilities to move into their own homes, preferably homes the young men and women could own. Finding no organization prepared to assist them, these parents decided to achieve their goal on their own. Over the years, the organization they founded, Movin’ Out, Inc., has compiled an impressive record of success in helping people with permanent disabilities, and their families, find and maintain housing of their choice in communities throughout Wisconsin. At Movin' Out. Inc, we devote our skills, knowledge, and resources to linking people with disabilities to safe, affordable, small-scale, integrated housing. We help people find homes that enable them to be good neighbors and community members. Home ownership and small-scale rental provide an alternative to practices that segregate and congregate people with disabilities. We are committed to working with renters or home buyers with disabilities and their families to identify ways they can contribute, financially and in other ways, to meeting their own housing needs and to building the stock of affordable housing over the long term. We are also committed to responsible management of public funds and our other resources, with the goal of retaining our reputation as a reliable and trusted partner in housing development.
