Multicultural Institute

The Multicultural Institute (MI), established in 1991, is celebrating 10 years of presence in North Fair Oaks (NFO) assisting immigrant families transcend socio-political and economic inequities. Through the Day Laborer program in NFO, MI provides job matching services, wage claim assistance, food aid, immigration referrals, housing, and health referrals.

After 17 years of successfully providing the Mentoring for Academic Success (MAS) program, MI is expanding and launching its third MAS site in NFO! It will assist low-income families who have had difficulty maneuvering the educational system. It will offer students after-school tutoring throughout the academic-year combined with interactive and stimulating STEM education lessons. This program will pilot this summer with MI offering NFO’s youth a month-long intensive summer writing camp focusing on STEM related activities called the Youth Writing Festival. At the end of the summer the youth will publish an anthology of their written work.
