They pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honour. Lucky for us.

During the eight long years of America’s War for Independence, something special happened.  Facing hardships and a seemingly unbeatable enemy, General Washington’s ragtag army became stronger, not weaker.  They discovered a belief in something larger than themselves.  And together they gave us the gift of America.

The American Revolution gave voice to the radical ideas of equality, liberty and self-government.  For the first time, a people defined themselves by nothing more than a shared idea.  These ideas and ideals have inspired each generation of Americans—whether in the bloody strife to end slavery, the fight for women’s suffrage or the struggle for civil rights.  Along the way, they have fueled the most prosperous and dynamic society the world has ever witnessed.

And ever since that Revolution, those who have struggled for freedom around the globe have voiced the same, powerful ideas.  The American Revolution has changed the course of history.

Each generation must not only learn the idea of America, it must also pass on that understanding and commitment to the next.  Join us in ensuring that the promise of the American Revolution endures.
