The National Black Radio Hall of Fame Museum serves a total of approximately 250 people each year throughout the St. Louis metropolitan community and provides a number of programs which help make the region a unique and vibrant place. The main services include the museum, outreach and educational programs, and concert performances with the goal of promoting an awareness of, and appreciation for cultural experiences focusing on early soul radio experiences. The mission of the National Black Radio Hall of Fame Museum is to procure, interpret and conserve African American cultural heritage as it pertains to black radio personalities and figures who were instrumental in their contribution to soul music. Since 2009, the National Black Radio Hall of Fame has provided the St. Louis community with a culturally enriched museum experience, a number of outreach programs and an array of performance arts. The organization operates within the Don and Heidi Wolff Jazz Institute at Harris-Stowe State University and contains a collection of vintage radios, microphones, broadcast equipment, and other memorabilia that provides a window into the history of radio and its impact on society.
The National Black Radio Hall of Fame’s goal is to provide dynamic experiences that promote the awareness and appreciation for soul radio and honor the achievements and triumphs of the numerous contributors with the biggest event being the Annual Induction Ceremony honoring personalities inducted into the National Black Radio Hall of Fame.
The organization is able to accomplish its goal by offering unique and memorable experiences helping adults, children, and families find meaningful connections to African-American media. The newly renovated museum builds on the organization's keys to success which include: Community Involvement - being visibly engaged as an active member of the community, helping to strengthen and promote positive outcomes and Dynamic Experience - excellence in fulfilling programming for all ages and creating a unique experience that will increase the awareness of radio and media arts. The Radio Hall of Fame Museum holds significant cultural and artistic significance as it showcases the evolution of radio broadcasting, which is not only a form of entertainment but also a crucial medium for communication, education, and cultural exchange.
