North Boroughs/Sewickley Area Meals on Wheels

A nonprofit organization

Neighbor Helping Neighbor improve the health and quality of life of the seniors in the northern boroughs off Route 65 from Brighton Heights to Sewickley so that no one is left hungry or isolated

25-Thousand Meals are delivered each year to elderly, home-bound, and disabled citizens in communities along State Route 65 Ohio River Boulevard from Brighton Heights to Sewickley Boroughs of Allegheny County, PA.

This local, non-government-funded organization, with only one part-time employee and a dedicated volunteer base of over 70, operates a Meals on Wheels program, preparing two ready-to-eat, home-delivered meals (a hot and a cold) five days a week, 52 weeks a year.

Our primary goal is to keep senior citizens in their homes for as long as possible by providing nutritious meals, relieving them of the burden of cooking, and ensuring that someone checks in on them daily.

Healthy eating can increase mental acuity, resistance to illness and disease, energy levels, immune system strength, recuperation speed and the ability to manage chronic health problems. We ensure that seniors have access to adequate nutrition even when family support, mobility and resources are lacking. For many, our volunteer driver visit is the only person they see or speak to all day. The friendly smiling delivery and quick chat serves as an invaluable social interaction plus a safety check.

Testimonials

The volunteers from the local Meals on Wheels program deliver meals to me every week, Monday through Friday. It's such a pleasure to have a smiling face come to my door and check on me each day! All the volunteers are very pleasant and kind. I'm very glad to have this service available to me!
