NOAGE

A nonprofit organization

NOAGE works to improve the well-being of LGBTQ+ older adults in the New Orleans metro area.

As advocates on behalf of the LGBTQ+ older adult community, NOAGE is committed to ensuring that all LGBTQ+ older adults can live their best possible lives with the dignity, respect, and good health that they deserve. LGBTQ+ older adults face more barriers to receiving adequate health care and social support than their heterosexual and cisgender peers. They face discrimination, mistreatment, and abuse in long-term care facilities and other healthcare settings. They are also more likely to be impoverished and socially isolated, and they are less likely to have a caretaker. The unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ older adults require a unique response. NOAGE works to increase the cultural competency of healthcare and other service providers through trainings and workshops. NOAGE also provides regular socialization and educational opportunities for LGBTQ+ older adults, including Coffee Talk, Movie Night, Monthly Potluck, Walking Group, Book Club and various other events.

Testimonials

"NOAGE has been so helpful in my struggle against being alone and disconnected. I look forward to this organization bringing members of our community to the table and using our voice and experience as guide for expansion." - NOAGE Constituent
