Nebraska Therapeutic Riding Academy

A nonprofit organization

We are a non-profit organization that began in June of 1986 for the purpose of providing equine-assisted therapy for individuals with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.

What is therapeutic riding?

The multidimensional movement of the horse not only improves the individual's muscle tone, posture, sensory systems, and motor function; it also positively influences cognition, speech, language, and emotional systems. Therapeutic riding provides joy and freedom that are unattainable in traditional clinical settings. From simple exercises to advanced therapeutic techniques, N.T.R.A. provides its riders the ability to move beyond the confines of their disabilities and gain pride and independence. Riders experience positive changes in attitudes toward self, peers, and abilities. Psycho-motor and cognitive skills are improved, as well as, language skills. Students have an opportunity to enhance school-related development skills in an interactive environment with positive reinforcement.

Horseback Riding has been proven as an effective therapy in the treatment of riders with the following diagnoses:

• Cerebral Palsy

• Autism

• Down Syndrome

• Developmental Delays

• Learning Disabilities

• Muscular Dystrophy

• Spina Bifida

• Hearing Impaired

• Visually Impaired

• Multiple Sclerosis

• Amputees

• Paraplegics

• And Many Others
