North Valley Symphony Orchestra

The mission of NVSO is to provide skilled and aspiring musicians of all ages the opportunity to learn, rehearse, and perform exceptional orchestral music, fostering music appreciation and engagement among members of the North Valley community.

North Valley Symphony Orchestra (NVSO) is a community orchestra program with three youth ensembles and an adult symphonic orchestra. Our musicians come from all walks of life but share a passion for rehearsing and performing exceptional orchestral music. As more schools are reducing their music curricula, NVSO youth programs provide an ensemble experience for over 80 student musicians. Studies have shown that students who participate in a focused and disciplined study of music develop skills beyond just musical technique, including leadership, teamwork, self-discipline, problem solving, time management, and creativity. Many college and career placement organizations recognize the value that music education brings to the whole student and consider that when reviewing applications. Many of our adult musicians hold degrees in music, and value the creative outlet that helps bring balance to their life. NVSO believe that music should be accessible and affordable for our community. Ticket prices are kept at just $5 so entire families can experience a live performance of exceptional orchestral music. The adult orchestra performs 4 major concerts per year and the youth perform 2 concerts. In addition to the major concerts, both the youth and adult musicians perform community outreach concerts. Usually this involves providing chamber ensembles to perform in places like senior living facilities, non-profit fundraisers, and at Gompers, a day facility for people of all ages with developmental disabilities. Bringing music out to the community to people who might not otherwise be able to experience live orchestra music is a very rewarding experience for our musicians. NVSO strives to be an active and engaged member of our community and helps support other local non-profits by participating in service days, fundraisers, and hosting food and toy drives at some of our concerts.
NVSO reaches an audience of approximately 3,000 people per year.
