The National Association to Advance Black Birth (NAABB) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to ground rigorous research in the wisdom of Black and Indigenous communities across the diaspora, carrying forward proven practices and advancing solutions to ensure maternal health equity.
NAABB is an organization led by Black midwives, physicians, lactation professionals, doulas, and activists. We have witnessed firsthand the disparities in maternal-infant health and understand the experiences and challenges of birth workers in the healthcare system.
We envision a future where Black birthing families are cherished and healthy — receiving the highest quality of care and upheld within systems that honor their rights, choices, and dignity. By centering the needs and wisdom of Black birthing families, we illuminate the path where all birthing people thrive, and maternal health in this nation is transformed.
We elevate Black birth workers through our Black Midwifery Scholarship program, removing financial barriers to completing training so that student midwives can work towards serving birthing people in their communities. Our Birth Justice Incubator and Fellowship program provides Black Birth workers with mentorship, entrepreneurial support, and financial resources to develop social justice-focused community programs. Our Black Birthing Bill of Rights is utilized nationally by birthing people, birth workers, government programs, hospitals, maternity providers and others as they transform their policies, procedures, and practices to meet the needs of Black birthing people and creating environments where all birthing people can thrive.
Your gift to NAABB today is more than just a gift to one nonprofit organization. It's a gift to future Black birth workers committed to serving their communities, building power, and striving towards justice, and to Black families and birthing people seeking respectful, equitable, and high-quality care during the perinatal period. Your gift is a catalyst for improved outcomes for birthing people and infants.
Thank you!
